Coming Attractions: Little Italy Preps for High Quality Take-Out

As the close of 2011 nears, my attention is already turned to 2012. There are tons of new restaurants, businesses and developments ready to break in the New Year. Many are still under wraps with the people behind them not ready to talk until all of the details surrounding their ventures have been finalized. Others would like to shout everything from the rooftops, but just don’t have enough info to give. Each day this week, I’ll provide you all that I can on five exciting happenings in the local hospitality industry to whet your appetites for the year to come.

Looks like the high quality, sustainability-minded take-out food of Prepkitchen won't just be for well-to-do, Beamer SUV-piloting soccer moms anymore. The standout to-go chain spin-off of La Jolla's Whisknladle is heading south to a completely new neighborhood and demographic for its third location. Set to open in Little Italy in mid-January, it will be the largest Prepkitchen to date (110 seats) and should raise the visibility of a chain that's mostly remained an inside secret for denizens in the communities in which the first two Prepkitchen's are entrenched - La Jolla and Del Mar. WNL/PK owner Arturo Kassel is a former resident of Little Italy and is a fair representation of the youthful, metro-centrics that call India Street and its surrounding avenues home. It's a sect that's sure to appreciate and flock to the chain's thoughtful and well prepared comfort food. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily followed by dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. A weekend brunch will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prepkitchen's Little Italy location will be located at 1660 India Street.
