Santa Fe Christian sinks Army-Navy from beyond the arc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oi5zlBVtt0g

On Friday night, Santa Fe Christian dug the deep ball. The Eagles hit 13 three-pointers to beat Army-Navy 63-48 in a matchup for first place in the Coastal North League unbeatens.

Santa Fe Christian (15-6, 4-0 Coastal North) led by six after the first quarter and opened the game up with their shooting in the second. Five of the Eagles’ six made baskets in the quarter were treys as they led by double digits at the break.

While Santa Fe Christian’s shooting cooled off in the third quarter, the Eagles dialed up the pressure defensively. The Eagles held Army-Navy (12-4, 2-1) to nine points in the third quarter to help open up an 18-point lead. From there, Santa Fe Christian was able to win comfortably.

Guard Kyle Hubbard led Santa Fe Christian with a game-high 22 points, including six three-pointers. Karl Holmlund (16 points) and Cade Gotta (11) also finished in double figures for the Eagles, who rebounded from a loss at La Jolla Country Day earlier in the week.

Santa Fe Christian’s hot shooting made up for a definite size disadvantage they had against the Warriors, who started 6’8” Kregg Jones and 7’0” Cheikh Ndiaye in the frontcourt.

Ndiaye scored a team-high 17 points for Army-Navy. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Warriors.
