Plans to Generate 13,000 Jobs in Mexicali (La Voz de la Frontera, 1/23/13)
Mexicali, BC - The 20th Town Hall aims to generate 13,000 jobs this year through the 2013 Strategic Plan for Economic Development and Employment, which was introduced by Municipal President Francisco Pérez Tejada Padilla. The Mayor unveiled the plans for Mexicali in economic matters to various leaders of business organizations, which includes intensive tourist, business and agribusiness promotions, as well as the development of major events along with the development of infrastructure.
He indicated that the goal of 2012 was for 12,000 jobs but according to figures from the Mexican Social Security Institute an increase of 11,800 new jobs was recorded, fulfilling the goal by 93%.
The Mayor declared that the 2013 Strategic Plan for Economic Development and Employment has the participation of the Commission's Development Industry (CDI), the Committee on Agricultural Development of Mexicali (SADC) and the Committee on Tourism and Conventions of Mexicali (Cotuco). He pointed out that to achieve the goal he referred to strategic activities, institutional support and realization of events, infrastructure projects and working plans of the CDI, Cotuco, and SADC.
Within strategic activities, he added, the 2050 Grand Vision Plan provides: a strategic agenda for economic promotion, continued working with economic development councils, continued alliances in the three valleys of Mexicali, Imperial and Coachella, among others.
For institutional support, explained the Mayor, the Mexicali Supply Expo, Agrobaja, and Summit of Medical Tourism, among others will be presented.
Infrastructure projects include the construction of the Linea II, the 2nd stage of the Sports Center, as well as reconstruction in the downtown area.
He added that along with the work plans of the three municipalities, Cotuco continues to sponsor and promote medical tourism, exhibitions of medical tourism and will continue with medical transportation and encourage opportunities in Mexicali in magazines or journals.
Pérez Tejada Padilla argued that it is also important to mention XX City Hall support of the Baja Festival of Music Program, sport fishing, the craft beer festival, and road racing, among others. The CDI is expected to continue with positioning Mexicali in the aerospace industry, the retention and expansion of companies and joint promotion efforts.
He expressed that an element of Promexico is part of the Industrial Development Committee so that they can take into account what is being done in Mexicali. There will also be promotions in the United States, Europe, Asia and the interior of the country.
With respect to SADC, it will maintain support for Agrobaja, as well as continue to support local producers with the "El Valle en tu ciudad (The Valley in your city)" program with plans to also install two agribusiness companies in the Mexicali Valley. http://www.oem.com.mx/lavozdelafrontera/notas/n2853699.htm
