Baja & Border News Translations: Tandem Bicycles Donated; Drug Arrests

Tandem Bicycles Donated (El Mexicano, 1/22/13 by Adriana MORALES MORALES)

ENSENADA, BC - The Foundation Corre Niño Corre made a donation of two tandem bicycles (where two travel people) to a vulnerable group which will be used to start a project called “Paseo a Ciegas (walk to blind)", where bicycle rides will be provided to a person with visual impairment in the company of a guide who will provide descriptions of the streets and the places where they pass.

The event was held at the first regular meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), with attention to vulnerable groups through the Secretary of Municipal Social Development (Sedesom), which announced the project and the commitment of those who participated in the donation in supporting that sector of society. During the event, the President of the Foundation Corre Niño Corre, Julio Santibáñez, said that when he was approached to start the project, he felt excited, and managed the acquisition of the tandem bicycles working together with the Pro-Ciclova Association chaired by Patricia Guatanabe.

Both groups have distinguished themselves by promoting sports through cycle rides that children attend with their parents and today have joined in supporting vulnerable groups with the spread of "Paseo a Ciegas". Santibañez also expressed that persons with disabilities teach us every day. “That we who can see with our eyes remain blind, compared with those who look with the heart", is why he donated the tandem bicycles and is promoting the sport, which leads to the formation of better citizens.

Also present at the same event were representatives of 15 civil society organizations working to support people with disabilities, who acknowledged the effort and work of those whom comprise vulnerable groups. At the end of the activities, the head of Sedesom, Marco Antonio Novelo Osuna, gave recognition to the President of the Foundation Corre Niño Corre for his commitment in working with one of the most vulnerable sectors of society, people with different abilities. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/3/estatal/2013/01/22/645787/regalan-bicicletas-a-debiles-visuales.aspx

Drug Arrests (El Mexicano, 1/22/13 by Fernando ESCOBEDO CAMACHO)

ENSENADA, BC - Agents of the Grupo Especial Todo Terreno (EGTT) making their surveillance on Calles Circuito Oriente and Calafia in Colonia Popular 89 observed a white 1977 Golf Amerika with two people, who noticed the presence of the officers and appeared nervous, so they were stopped.

The men, José Luis González Rivera, 33, and Gregorio Barrera Vázquez, 37, were asked by the policemen to exit the vehicle and noticed that José Luis dropped so-called black plastic wrapped "drug balloons" to the ground. The two were then arrested. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/22/policiaca/2013/01/22/645769/tiro-globos-de-droga.aspx
