Baja & Border News Translations: Vaccines Recommended for Protection

Vaccines Recommended for Protection (El Sol de Tulancingo, 1/20/13)

Pachuca, Hidalgo - To prevent respiratory infections from the typical cold, it is the recommended season to vaccinate against seasonal influenza and pneumococcus, so that people have the necessary protection.

The head of the Diseases Prevention Division of the Unit of Public Health from the Instituto Mexicano at insurance Social (IMSS), Armando González García, stressed that the population should receive one dose of vaccine each year.

He pointed out that the youngest and oldest are the most vulnerable to respiratory infections, therefore they give priority to the vaccination of children six months to four years and adults over 60. Another at-risk group are pregnant women, no matter the month of gestation, since the vaccines are made with an inactivated virus, that only produce defenses in the body and do not affect the good development of the baby.

Also, he said, patients with asthma diseases or cardiovascular diseases that weaken them, should get vaccinated. Children and adults with obesity as well as health personnel attending to sick can become infected.

The importance of receiving the annual seasonal influenza vaccine dose, he explained, is primarily due to its epidemic behavior, while continuing to insist the antineumonica protects against respiratory infections caused by Pneumococcus. Of this there are two types: for children two apply at four and 12 months of age, and the adult only once, from age 65. Vaccines are available in all the units of family medicine.

The Institute acquired over eight million doses for the protection of its covered population, totaling more than 23 million free vaccines in the Health Sector.

After inoculation, explained the specialist, there may be pain at the site of application and in some cases there is a temperature rise that lasts no more than one day, but if there are problems associated with the vaccine, go to your family physician.

Armando González García stated that vaccines protect against ailments causing high mortality or severe ailments, however, the myths must be banished about vaccinations causing severe flu or colds, since the vaccine by itself can not cause the disease. To develop full power a vaccine, he said, the immune system be given two weeks for a healthy organism to become prepared to develop its defenses.

He invited the insured population to get vaccinated, as well as to strengthen your respiratory and immune systems through good nutrition and hydration, in addition to beware of possible respiratory infections and avoid places crowded with the risk of contagion. http://www.oem.com.mx/lavozdelafrontera/notas/n2849359.htm
