Baja & Border News Translations: Discounts and Incentives Attract Property Tax Payments

Discounts and Incentives Attract Property Tax Payments (El Sol de Tijuana, 1/18/13)

Tijuana, BC - Los Lazos continued to leverage incentives and discounts offered by the City Government, by paying their taxes during the month of January, which in the first two weeks has resulted in attracting 80,871,000 pesos ($6,395,859 US), reported Revenue Collector Luis Javier Covarrubias Hays.

On the initiative of Municipal President Carlos Bustamante Anchondo, taxpayers benefit with a 10% discount by paying their property taxes this month. “This is why citizens have paid their taxes, since this way they reap the benefits granted. In these first two weeks they paid 77,348 pesos ($6,117 US) into city accounts, which represents an approximate income of 80,871,000 pesos ($6,395,859 US)," the official said.

With an offer to provide home fire and theft insurance by the City Government to the first 150,000 Lazos who pay property taxes, Tax Collector Luis Javier Covarrubias said 70,000 valid policies have been posted so far. "In other words, we still have 80,000 policies for taxpayers who pay in the coming days. It is important to say this insurance is free, applicable to your home for fires of up 100,000 pesos ($7,900 US) and household theft of up to 15,000 pesos ($ 1,186 US)," said the fundraiser.

As part of the incentives offered by the Government to paying users, Luis Javier Covarrubias Hays indicated they are covering the payments during the first quarter of the year, if owners abandoned their premises due to the rate of dropping property values in 2009.

The City Government has 20 collection boxes at City Hall, with 20 modules for printing receipts and three more of registration stations for any doubts or explanations, so users can make payments in less than five minutes.

Property tax collection boxes will remain open to the public from 7:00 until 17:00 hours, Monday to Friday, both at City Hall and in the delegations. On Saturday, the boxes remain enabled from 9:00 to 15:00 hours; and Sundays from 9:00 to 13:00. http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldetijuana/notas/n2846830.htm
