TIJUANA, BC – 900,000 citizens live in poverty in Baja California, 100,000 of them in extreme poverty and around 1,000 families are in food poverty, a condition that the state plans to eradicate, recognized Pablo Alejo López Núñez, Secretary of Social Development in the State.
He stressed that the social programs of the three levels of Government are sufficient to cater to the large number of newcomers, who incidentally or permanently reside in the entity and require support subsidiaries by the authority. However, what is needed is to take care that no one is left without access to the supports and there is enough to help any person in one of the recognized poverty strata.
Extreme poverty in Baja California has declined by 3/10% according to the National Council of Social Development (Coneval) in evaluating policy, but still notes there are 25,000 families in the group. Thousands of those families live in poverty, according to a study by the Colegio de la Frontera Norte (Colef). Ministerial Police Equipped to Reduce Home Thefts (MEXICANO, 1/14/13 by Said Betanzos)
TIJUANA, BC - The Robbery Unit of the Ministerial police in the city has now 16 vehicles intended to only respond to complaints brought before the Public Prosecutor for home robberies and lessen these illicit crimes. The Solicitor of the State, Rommel Moreno Manjarrez said that these programs will "respond once the citizen makes their complaint; in less than 48 hours ministerial staff will visit the home to take fingerprints and interviews".
The intention is to give more agility to the investigation to capture the criminals, he said. The Secretariat of Public Security of the State (SSPE) statistics reveal that in Tijuana an average of 400 household thefts without violence are recorded every month and about 20 with violence. "Of all the offenses that arise in Tijuana, these efforts make the most sense. Therefore in subsequent months we will look for people who submit their complaints" and capture those criminals, he said.
The effects of the thefts, such as the consumption of drugs, presence of former convicts and economic circumstances "they generate at times, solid theft cases when a plasma TV is stolen," he mentioned.
