Baja & Border News Translations: Bulevar Cuauhtemoc Sur Closed by Landslide

Bulevar Cuauhtemoc Sur Closed by Landslide (Tijuana Press, 1/14/13 by XX Ayto communiqué)

Tijuana, BC - In order to protect and safeguard the physical integrity of citizens, the 20 Ayuntamiento de Tijuana will perform work to remove earth and stone on bulevar Cuauhtemoc Sur - at the Montesinos Calimax supermarket, due to an avalanche of a slope, so that stretch of the road will remain closed to traffic in both directions, during the next 72 hours.

Works Director and Municipal Urban Infrastructure (DOIUM), Esteban Yee Barba, said on the instructions of Mayor Carlos Bustamante Anchondo, a need was determined to restrict the passage of vehicles through this road to prevent any incident that endangers people. "It is important to publicize that access will be limited to vehicles in both directions on bulevar Cuauhtemoc Sur – from the Montesinos Calimax to the pedestrian bridge close to the 28th Infantry Battalion. Regarded as alternate routes are bulevar Fundadores and libramiento Rosas Magallón," explained Yee Barba.

The official explained that at an early hour a part of the hill detached and slid away - located between colonias Llamas Amaya and Planetario - caused by a geological fault. There is a risk of continued landslides in the area, and it may represent an imminent danger. Esteban Yee said that an analysis of this movement will be made of the ground to determine how to attack the problem and protect citizens, since a development is in the process of being building near the slope. It has all the appropriate permissions.

"The specific nature of the slope that is failing, formerly" had some weight removed from the top, but was a natural field that has not been touched in the construction of the development. Fortunately there has been no damage or anything affected by this failure,” said the head of the DOIUM. Municipal Government urged citizens to respect the road signs that indicate the closure of the road to avoid congestion, as well as fatal accidents, concluded Yee Barba. http://www.tijuanapress.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8674:cierran-cuauhtemoc-sur-por-deslave&catid=1:locales&Itemid=50
