Profeco to Verify Pawn Shops (La Voz de la Frontera, 1/10/13 by Alejandro Dominguez)
Mexicali, BC - In order to establish better surveillance for those who insist on pawning their garments to survive the month of January; the Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco) launched their verification program of pawn shops.
The Deputy of the Profeco in Mexicali, Carlos Francisco Guillén Armenta, explained that this operation has been implemented at the national level in order to ensure this kind of establishment complies with reporting on interest rates and deadlines set for the pledger.
This operation has been implemented precisely because at this time of year it is very common that people pawn their garments, since they had many large expenses in December with preparing for Christmas dinner and New Year’s Eve, as well as gifts. Then in January they do not have enough to cover tuition or telephone bills, among others.
The federal official mentioned there are 110 registered pawn shops in Mexicali. During 2012, fourteen complaints were received because they did not follow the deadlines established for the payment of a loan. These establishments sold pawned garments before the end of the payment period; however, damage can be compensated by replacement of the garment or its value, arriving at some arrangement that satisfies the consumer.
These companies will be reviewed to ensure they have a duly registered membership contracts with the Profeco, their balances are perfectly calibrated, and deadlines as well as interest is available for inspection. Guillén Armenta said that at the time of a transaction with a pawn shop, customers should read the contract thoroughly and keep payment receipts, so a good defense can be made if their rights are violated.
Finally, the Deputy of the Profeco invited consumers who are victims of any abuse to contact telephone numbers 557 30 84 or 01 800 468 87 22. http://www.oem.com.mx/lavozdelafrontera/notas/n2837235.htm

He added the importance unions of not trying to affect students with their actions, Santillán Pérez said, allows for the promotion of evaluations as a diagnosis, not a repressive measure in favor of everything contrary and detrimental for the teachers, but a way to be able to highlight and support teachers with satisfactory evaluation rates, leaving aside dismissals of teaching staff who do not get the same assessment.
In this sense, he analyzed that education reform makes a difference for education in Mexico, since it is a transformation of funds which will contribute to work done in the state, where it has been working with a clear educational model and ensuring evaluation and accountability with the sole aim that students have quality teachers in the classroom. Finally, he noted that the entity has not been in actions that violate the respect for the rights of teachers. "The ESA has sought dialogue and coordination of work with the unions in order to make progress in regard to the quality of education," he ended. http://www.oem.com.mx/lavozdelafrontera/notas/n2837233.htm
