Baja & Border News Translations: 91 Area Nurses Recognized; PEP Confirms Marijuana Seizure

91 Area Nurses Recognized (El Sol de Tijuana, 1/10/13 by Juan Guizar)

Tijuana, BC - Certified for their quality of service, 91 members of the area's nursing community received recognition by the Mexican Institute of Social Insurance, consisting of diploma and bonus of 5,000 pesos ($395 US).

They are 82 female nurses and 9 male nurses who received recognition after having received a call from the Ministry of Health, to be evaluated in the performance of their daily activities, resulting in two of them reaching a national category: Lorenza Ita Nidia Cruz Sanchez, an employee of Clinic 20, originally from Oaxaca, and another nurse at the IMSS Oportunidades Program.

Prior to the recognition ceremony, the award-winning nursing staff received post technical courses on new technologies as well as new treatments applied to patients. Currently the Institute has 3,784 nurses. More than 60% have a Bachelor's degree; at least 1,000 have a specialty and the rest a technical career with a specialization.

During the recognition ceremony an overview was provided on the meaning of nursing and its symbolism, as a characteristic of light, which symbolizes the light of hope given to the helpless. Each was also presented with headgear which symbolizes the hierarchies in nursing.

The event took place at the Auditorium of Clinical Hospital 20 and was chaired by Parliamentary and Trade Union authorities. http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldetijuana/notas/n2836732.htm

PEP Confirms Marijuana Seizure (El Sol de Tijuana, 1/10/13 by Adam Mondragon)

Tijuana, BC - The director of Preventive State Police (PEP), Marco Antonio Montoya Gomez, confirmed that 9,041 kilos of marijuana were seized by elements of the Corporation on Monday afternoon in housing at ejido Francisco Villa.

In a press conference Marco Antonio Montoya Gomez, in a hesitant manner rejected versions stating the drug had already been seized. The State official said there were 2,164 packages of marijuana, apparently packages having different characteristics, so it is suspected that the drug belonged to several shipments.

Similarly, Montoya Gomez stated is not known which criminal group that operates in the entity the seized drugs belong to, said the Preventive State Police. The director of the PEP, pointed out that it is the first occasion that occurred in a marijuana seizure in the city in which packages were marked identifying their specific weights.

He reiterated that the seizure of the drugs occurred after an anonymous complaint was received, "We also deny there was a confiscation of a greater volume reported during 2013". Marco Antonio Montoya Gómez, director of the Preventive State Police, said elements of the Attorney General's Office (PGR) delegation in Baja California, reported on drugs that already had been seized.
