Despite Cold in Region, DIF has Not Opened Hostels (Uniradio Informa, 1/6/13)
Tijuana, BC - Despite repeated recommendations issued by the Directorate of Civil Protection of the State, with the intensification of cold during the last days of the year, the temporary shelter of the DIF in Tijuana has not gone into operation, because the municipal delegations have shown the ability to assist people who require support to cope with low temperatures.
This was noted by the General Director of the DIF Tijuana, José Luis Hernández Silerio, who emphasized that even when temperatures have gone down, they have not considered opening the hostel of this area, able to accommodate 100 people, because there are contingencies where Civil Protection, Social Development and the Government Secretariat must consider necessary to open the doors to people who live on the streets of the city.
In this regard, he indicated that the DIF has allocated its resources to strengthen civil society organizations such as the houses for migrants and Madre Asunta that have given out blankets so their is humanitarian aide for those who come to their doors.
"We have not had to open the hostels in the municipal DIF because there have been no heavy rains, but we have cold temperatures shelters waiting for them. We first act on the recommendations of civil protection in terms of contingencies in coordination with the Government and the Social Development Secretariat, but until now both civil protection delegations have covered the needs. It is a coordinated action of the municipal government to provide for the contingency in certain places or when temperatures demand it," he said.
Finally, he stated that in DIF Tijuana 2013 projections, they are expected to intensify programs in particular those relating to two campaigns: combating domestic violence and respect for the rights of the disabled. http://www.uniradioinforma.com/noticias/tijuana/articulo167241.html
