Free Internet Connection Started in Tijuana (El Sol de Tijuana, 9/26/2012)
Tijuana, BC - The State Government together with Northwest (Telnor) Phone Company opened the first free WiFi internet connection area in the city. The alliance program with Telnor began the project which is intended to extend throughout the area and will provide internet access to thousands of students at all educational levels.
The State Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan, Mayor Raúl Leggs, and government officials inaugurated the installation that took place in La Centro de la Cultura de la Legalidad, located in the Rio’s Third Stage. The WiFi zone will have a radius of 100 meters.
Telnor Director General Salvador Barra Arias stressed the need for young people to have free internet services as vital for their academic and personal development. "Who needs to be more in contact with the world, in all aspects", he asked and also pledged to support the State Government to continue this project to bring the internet to additional strategic points in the entity.
The State Governor stressed that it will manage to provide "some 20 computers" so that young people who do not have a laptop can make use of the WiFi by requesting the equipment and returning it after their use to browse the internet. http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldetijuana/notas/n2708667.htm
More than 12,000 Pirated Disks Seized (El Sol de Tijuana, 9/23/2012 by Daniel Angel)
Tijuana, BC - Municipal Police officers seized a total of 12,650 audio and video compact discs during surveillance operations conducted yesterday at the "Las Carpas" swap meet culminating with the arrest of eight suspects, including two minors. Officers operating in the La Mesa district toured the Mall area in search of suspects and illegal merchandise.
The first arrest occurred around 3:45 PM in Hall M, Local 21, where officers arrested Ricardo Méndez Corrales, 30, and a minor Alexander “N”, with 2,700 items.
Minutes later, in Hall 1, officers identified a young man who offered more illegal items with two alleged accomplices in another room. There they arrested Rodrigo Villarreal Briceño, 25, Esteban Tlilayatzi Xelhuantzi, 29, and Jeffrey “N” with 2,850 video and audio compact discs.
Later, they arrested another three individuals with 6,100 audio compact discs and 1,000 video discs. The individuals were identified as José Martín Torres Ramírez, 57, Rosamaria Gomez Prado, 24, and Miguel Angel Nunez Maaximoplacer, 55.
