Baja & Border News Translations: Truckers Face CA Laws; Baja Culinary & Gastro Festival 2012

4,000 Truckers Face California Laws (El Sol de Tijuana, 9/11/12 by Rocio Galvan)

Tijuana BC – 4,000 truckers passing through the Tijuana-San Diego region will face new California State road regulations and new laws in Mexico that limit the weight and dimensions of vehicles traveling on Mexican roads said Guadalupe Sandoval of the Association of Independent Carriers of Baja California and Jorge Rhi Sausi, Strategic Manager of Cummins Baja Company in a press conference.

They pointed out that a lot of confusion exists between transport companies and the so-called hombre-camion (owner operated rigs), which many Mexicans have as their only vehicle and means of earning a living. This causes problems with deception and false expectations to circulate when requirements are on the rise.

Jorge Rhi Sausi said his company that represents engine manufacturers that have all passed California certifications and therefore can pass all regulations without problems. Sandoval and Baja Cummins executives announced a seminar entitled "Actions and solutions for California Laws" that will start this Wednesday at the Hotel Lausanne in order for operators to get trained on what should and should not be permitted to travel on roads in the region.

There will be six hours of discussion regarding modifications to Official Mexican Standard 012, as well as changes in California laws for those who manage transport loads, and thus avoid the loss of time and waste of resources because they are detained and/or fined.

Many people, said the leader, have ignored the maquiladora industry and in general all economic activity in the area is moved by these Mexican carriers who use 2009 trucks or newer and travel only 20 kilometers (8 miles) over the the border but move all of the merchandise between the two countries. Federal agents participated in the seminar to publicize the new regulations on national roads. http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldetijuana/notas/n2690815.htm
