Baja & Border News Translations, Sept 10, 2012 - MEXICALI

Three Homes Burned in Nueva Esperanza (La Cronica, 09/10/12 by Gerardo Fragoso) MEXICALI, BC - At around 12:00 noon, neighbors reported the house at 1045 Monterrey Street was being devoured by flames, so fire crews were dispatched to the site. Upon arrival, the firefighters found the house consumed by a fire already moving toward a small adjacent home at 1047 Monterrey Street. The flames did not give up easily and continued its destructive path in the direction of a house at 113 Coahuila Avenue, where there is a nail salon.

At 1045 Monterrey, where Luis Ignacio Ortega Águila lives, damage was substantial, as the fire burned furniture, as well as the electrical access gate and caused damage to roofing, which was threatening to fall into the devastated rooms. In neighboring 1047, in which José Ventura lives there were burns to the ceiling, which also risked collapse and in several rooms as well as the house’s furnishings. Finally, at 113 Coahuila, where Ignacio Pérez García lives, damage was less, focused on the back of the house, which adjoined the most affected dwellings.

Neighbors notified Mrs. Perez of the fire. The woman told authorities she only had a few minutes to leave her home after she received a call. According to unofficial versions, the cause of the fire could have been a short circuit of the electric gate or a lamp located in the garage of the same. http://www.lacronica.com/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/10092012/621226.aspx

22 Taxi Drivers Complete Course Taught by DSPM (La Cronica, 09/10/12 by Gerardo Fragoso) MEXICALI, BC - A group of 22 taxi drivers received awards from Municipal Public Safety (DSPM) in ten-hour course where they trained on issues such as defensive driving, transit rules and personal growth.

The diplomas were awarded in a ceremony held at DSPM headquarters attended by Director Marco Antonio Carrillo Maza, Operational Deputy Director Alejandro Lora Torres, and Urban Area Commander Alejandro Monreal Noriega, as well as Subcommander of Western Capital State Area Antonio Navarrete Castillo.

During the occasion, Carrillo noted, "Something the Mayor wanted, since we started, is better rapport with the citizenship. If we do not listen, we can not know the problems we face".

Carrillo said that it has become a good service provided by the DSPM by teaching dynamics of this kind to different parts of society. He said, "We started more than a year ago, and now every other night we are offering different courses for different groups".

Meanwhile, Navarrete expressed to graduates, "We must have scientific knowledge of transit regulations and defensive driving. I am very proud of you, because you carried out an effort that few do, because you worked 12 hours and invested 2 or 3 hours a week. That's worthy of compliment". http://www.lacronica.com/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/10092012/621229.aspx
