Homicide Rate Up 50% (La Cronica, 10/25/12 by Gina Rodríguez)

SAN LUIS RÍO COLORADO, Sonora – The intentional homicide rate increased by 50% during the last year in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, while offenses such as intentional injury and theft among others have declined reported the Regional Public Safety Outreach Coordinator.

Héctor Sandoval Gámez, unveiled criminal indexes for this year at a press conference, with figures until September 31, 2012, making comparisons with previous years’ statistics.

It reflected an increase of intentional homicides by 50% compared with 2011, with February having the most cases, which was due to three executed persons found on the Federal Highway between Sonoyta and San Luis Río Colorado town limits.

The State official said that compared with other cities, fewer murders occur in San Luis Rio Colorado. Statistics show that most of the killings this year occurred in the colonies of Aeropuerto, Sonora and Jalisco. http://www.lacronica.com/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/25102012/633879.aspx

Casino Tax Inspections Conducted (La Cronica, 10/25/12 by Gina Rodríguez)

SAN LUIS RÍO COLORADO, Sonora -Municipal inspectors will visit casinos in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora In order to see if their payment of taxes is current.

Municipal Treasurer, Adriana Lozano Sotelo, indicated that it has started the process of regularization of the casinos that operate in the city. Of the eight registered, six continue to operate in the city, since they closed the other two. One operated in the town of Luis B. Sanchez and the other in el Golfo de Santa Clara.

During the visit, a warrant for the Casinos is made by the town hall to pay taxes on each slot machine, for a total of 1,040 pesos ($80 US) per quarter.

The owner of the Municipal Treasury noted that the sanction to the casinos for violating their tax obligations can be between 50 to 150 pesos in daily minimum wages. http://www.lacronica.com/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/25102012/633849.aspx
