Baja & Border News Translations: There are 55 Million Internet Users in Mexico; Carnival of Ensenada Venue Change Considered

There are 55 Million Internet Users in Mexico (Monitor Economico, 10/24/12)

Distrito Federal - 55 million Internet users in Mexico, place it among the 12 countries with the highest number of populations on the web. This was revealed in a study on habits of internet users in Mexico by the Technological Institute of Higher Studies in Monterrey (ITESM) and the 2012 World Internet Project (WPI).

The study showed that in the Federal District and its metropolitan area, Internet penetration reaches 55% of the population, which represents 11 million users, said Fernando Gutiérrez, general coordinator of the Internet project of the ITESM.

The next region in importance with 46% is the North, then Northwest with 45%. More than 7 million users are less than 11 years of age, known as digital natives. By sex, 51% of Internet users are men and 49% are women who are increasingly using the Internet, since the number increased two percentage points since last year.

Also climbing is Internet access via cell phones, where 22 hours of navigation are invested on average. In relation to the electoral process in July 2 six of every ten users were said to have followed the campaigns on various media sources via the Internet.

It is worth mentioning that the majority followed candidate activities on Facebook (56%), 32% on You tube, 24% by electronic mail, 19% by Twitter and 17% in blogs. http://monitoreconomico.org/noticias/2012/oct/24/en-mexico-hay-55-millones-de-usuarios-con-internet-itesm/

Carnival of Ensenada Venue Change Considered (Monitor Economico, 10/24/12)

Ensenada, BC - Since sellers registered to participate in Carnival of Ensenada festivities in the Municipal Beach area do not recover their investment, is possible for the 2013 event to again have a change of venue and take place in the Civic Plaza de la Patria.

Merchants who requested anonymity provided this information, but it was not confirmed by the President of the Board of Celebrations (Pafest), Ramón Insunza Ramos. The complainants noted that being far away from the tourist zone results in the consequence of citizens not attending and thus they have economic losses.

In this regard the Chairman the Cámara Nacional de Comercio (Canaco), Alfredo Rico Bravo, mentioned that although nothing is official, formal merchants in the downtown area agreed to return the festivities to the Civic Plaza, since it affects the sector in different ways.

"For us the best place is Playa Hermosa on the expansion of the coastal Boulevard”, he noted, as national Chamber of Commerce representative. "If this becomes the official change of venue, we will take a stance against it, so Carnival can continue at the Municipal Beach”. http://monitoreconomico.org/noticias/2012/oct/24/cambiaria-sede-central-del-carnaval-de-ensenada-para-2013/
