US and Mexico Instructors to Train 125 Police Officers (El Mexicano, 10/19/12)

Tijuana, BC - As part of the theoretical and practical instruction of permanent Municipal police, 125 officers will begin professional courses at Instituto de Capacitación y Adiestramiento Profesional (ICAP), according to the Secretariat of Municipal Public Safety (SSPM).

From next Monday, for five weeks, 75 police officers will complete an Officials Protection course. Of these, 50 currently serve as bodyguards and 25 are assigned to a task force, said ICAP Director Jose Luis Lopez Medina. He explained that the instructors come from United States and most are former police officers or former soldiers who served their country in special tactical units.

The idea, he continued, is to strengthen Commissioners to escort officials in their work with theoretical and practical knowledge. The course will be 80% practical and 20% theoretical, and taught at the Grand Hotel Tijuana, with resources from a federal government subsidy for Safety of Municipalities (Subsemun).

Lopez Medina explained that beginning October 29th, for two weeks, 55 municipal officers, including experts and an operational group, will receive training in first aid by instructors from the Regional Academy of the Northwest from Culiacan, Sinaloa. Some of them already have a theoretical basis. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/22/policiaca/2012/10/19/622639/instructores-de-eu-y-mexico-capacitaran-a-125-policias.aspx
