1.5 Million Mexicans Returned to Mexico from U.S. in 3 Years (El Sol de Tijuana, 10/15/12)
City of Mexico - The Under-Secretary for Population, Migration and Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, Gustavo Mohar Betancourt, said that around a million and a half Mexicans have been returned from the United States to Mexico in the last three years, and it constitutes a great challenge for the country.
The wife of President Calderón, Margarita Zavala, welcomed a group of 60 children of migrant laborers as part of activities carried out in national migration week. During the inauguration of the fifth edition of the national week of migration, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the federal official said a significant number of people in Colombia, Congo and Haiti seek a better life in Mexico with the knowledge Mexico is a hospitable country.
On the subject, the Commissioner of the National Institute of Migration (INM), Salvador Beltran del Rio, said that there are 300,000 migrant foreigners who have helped shape the country of Mexico. If documentation was provided to enter our country and if they have a U.S. visa, they can also enter the U.S.
It is important to comment, migration in our country has various issues, these include the passage of thousands of foreigners arriving each year in the country heading to the United States, many of them victims of robberies, extortion, kidnappings and killings.
In her address, the President of the National System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF), Margarita Zavala, said that migration is a right that must be exercised with more instruments and tools for the protection of human rights. "We must promote this culture, of care, of protection and treatment for migrants, refugees, for those who go this way which we are repatriating", she cited.
The staff detailed this issue and discussed and analysed the different issues of the migratory phenomenon to improve public policy in the defense and protection of migrant human rights. As well, we must analyze the phenomenon of international and internal migration that occurs within the country and the effects it has on children. Tijuana, BC - In Mexico there is an annual production of electronic waste estimated at 150,000 tons and the amount is increasing, said Octavio García Bermúdez, a Member of the Interdisciplinary Center for the Prevention of Pollution (Ciprec, AC).
"We are projecting that by 2014, this volume will increase to 450,000 tons of waste, a volume that is very important to focus upon” and he pointed out, for the impact this will have on the environment and health. He pointed out that in the country there are 40 companies dedicated to manufacturing these devices, but about a quarter complete recycling work and the rest only repair and sell material such as metal or wire.
Material that does not reach recycling companies, said Garcia Bermudez, is stored in cellars or in landfills without receiving proper treatment. He mentioned the figures are from a survey conducted by the National Institute of Ecology with whom they work and was validated in 2010.
He explained some metropolitan areas of the country were taken into account for the study and included Baja California. Due to its border location, it has improved the access and consumption of electronics.
