TIJUANA, BC - In the past five years, the Secretariat of Social Development of the State (SEDESOE) significantly increased resources to migrants support centers in Tijuana, spending more than 11 million pesos ($853,000 US) for the comprehensive care of our compatriots.
The Sub Secretary of SEDESOE, Mario Osuna Jiménez, reported in an interview, the Government of Baja California regularly collaborates with migrant centers in the city who work with social problems for the authorities.
"We regularly work with these centers through the coordination of civilian society outreach agencies; support resources for food, lodging and the voluntary return of migrants", the State official said.
Mario Osuna Jiménez pointed out that monthly support funding of about 100,000 pesos ($7757 US) is spent for a rental truck used for the voluntary return of between 60 or 70 migrants deported from the United States. "The instructions of Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan and Secretary Pablo Alejo Núñez, have been specific: coordinate and support the OCS that serve migrants", he stressed.
The Sub Secretary of SEDESOE said that it is a priority for the Government to respond to our compatriots’ economic issues; those who had to leave their places of origin in search of a better way of life abroad, and who have been unfortunate with detention and deportation.
Mario Osuna reported that in the past five years, the State Government allocated 11,623,875 pesos ($901,000 US), in conjunction with the Federation and the municipality for migrant support centers. During this period, the House of the Tijuana Migrant Center received 4,207,708 pesos ($326,000 US); the Coalition Pro Defense Migrant Center, 3,606,699 pesos ($280,000 US); and the Institute Madre Asunta BC, 2,358,099 pesos ($183,000 US). TIJUANA, BC - Marco Sotomayor, Director of C4 in Baja California, reported that they are receiving over 800 calls a month by telephone for extortion in the State.
This was announced during a presentation of the anonymous complaint program, implemented by the private Sector and State Government, and he clarified people, although, leave less documentation for extortion calls.
He continued, “In a month there are around 800 calls and I can tell you that in 98 percent of the cases citizens are not in error, i.e. fortunately the money is not deposited; an issue known by the population", said the director of the C4 in Baja California.
