Baja & Border News Translations: Attempted Sale of Stolen Car; Two Suspects Arrested for Theft

Attempted Sale of Stolen Car (Tijuana Press, 10/13/12 by Daniel Angel)

Tijuana, BC - Germán Arturo Obregón Montes, 34, was brought before a judge after, according to reports of the Attorney General of Justice, he tried to sell a reported stolen car on a public roadway.

The arrest, informed the Attorney General of Justice State (PGJE) in a press release, occurred October 9th on el libramiento sur, where the detainee offered the truck for sale through ads on the windows. The vehicle, a Ford Explorer truck, it was reported, had the hood opened and no battery according to detectives when they approached.

"Contacting the suspect, who was in the driver's seat, we were noticed that was a metal bayonet in the ignition switch. After checking the vehicle serial number in the stolen vehicle system, we were informed that the unit in question had report of theft under Act 6395/12/205", reported the PGJE.

Once arrested, said the investigating authority, the detainee said that "two friends" gave him the car to sell for 4,000 pesos ($310 US) with the promise that he would receive 1,000 pesos ($78 US) if successful.

"It was mentioned at a review of his criminal background, the subject had a long and consistent criminal record in the commission of offenses: possession of prohibited weapons, home robbery, simple robbery, vehicle theft, breaking and entry, assault, and intentional property damage", they recorded in the communiqué.

They added that Obregón Montes admitted his guilt, so he was placed at the disposal of the judge for the first degree crime of theft and for the attempted sale of a stolen motor vehicle. http://www.tijuanapress.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7886:queria-vender-auto-robado-pgje&catid=1:locales&Itemid=50

Two Suspects Arrested for Theft (Tijuana Press, 10/13/12 by Daniel Angel)

Tijuana, BC - Police announced through a press release, the capture of two subjects presumably engaged in theft. The first was identified as Oscar Ivan Torres Castellón, 21, who was stopped at calle Rancho Tijuana in del fraccionamiento Villas de Baja California. The release by the Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM) said that Torres Castellón was located when the police responded to a report of robbery at the Oxxo market.

"Witnesses to the robbery fully identified Oscar as "the thief, who faked having a firearm to the employees and took 3,420 pesos ($265 US)", said the municipal police. They added at the time of his arrest the money and weapons were placed at the disposal of the public prosecutor's Office as he was identified.

The other detainee, continues the report, is Juan Carlos Pérez Gonzalez, 25, although not many details on the subject were provided. They say he covered his face with a balaclava and in a bag had a metallic weapon almost 15 cm long (7”). The municipal police arrested Juan Carlos, as the assailant, and said, “he planned to attack a pedestrian or a motorist". http://www.tijuanapress.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7887:detiene-municipal-a-qasaltante-en-potenciaq&catid=1:locales&Itemid=50
