Tijuana, BC - Official statistics from the Baja California Attorney General of Justice, show there were 34 malicious homicides in the month of September, 12 more than the previous month.
A downward trend August, registering only 22 murders, but a significant increase was seen for September.
The authorities insist the vast majority of murders are related to the street sale of drugs or "narcomenudeo".
However in recent weeks, there have been more cases with characteristics of executions to settle accounts the authorities called crimes of high impact.
The Attorney General of Justice argues between 70 and 80% of the murders in Tijuana, are linked to the narcomenudeo.

Detainees’ Lawyer Arrested (Tijuana Press, 10/2/12 by Vicente Calderón)
Tijuana, BC - A lawyer, who came to represent several people held responsible for a double murder, was arrested by municipal police. The families of several men called the arrest of lawyer Luis Verduzco by the municipal authorities arbitrary.
The counselor explained to Tijuanapress.com that when he came to ask about the situation of the detainees, he was placed into the patrol truck.
All remained in police custody by evening when the Municipal Public Security Secretariat convened a media conference when they noted they detainees were held for involvement in a double murder, and it was then they said they also arrested the lawyer.
Luis Verduzco, in addition to being an attorney, served as an expert of the Secretariat of City Public Safety to elements of the municipal police in the training center of the Secretariat since last February.
Alberto Capella, Tijuana Public Safety Secretary testified to the media, Verduzco led officers to the group of police officers confined under investigation for suspected involvement with drug trafficking.
Two of the officers were sent to the premises of the second military zone where they stated they were psychologically tortured. Fearful of what would happen to the whole group, they convened a Press Conference to denounce unjust imprisonment. The complaint encouraged the National Human Rights Commission to send two investigators to visit Tijuana to investigate the agents’ complaints.
Soon after, the Director of Municipal Police, Ricardo Garduño, said the officials’ idea of sending them for confinement with the army was by order of Capella Ibarra.
The Municipal Public Security Secretariat convened the press conference to display the suspects involved in killings in colonia Lomas de la Mission. One suspect was presented then three more and at the end the lawyer was added to the row. Then they were all removed before anyone could ask them anything.
