Tijuana, BC - Those scientists and technologists in the State wishing to participate in the 2012 State Prize for Science and Technology are reminded the registration deadline is November 30. This week Technical Secretary of the State Council of Science and Technology (COCYT) Jorge Ramos invited candidates to register from the three orders of Government, universities and institutions of higher education, institutes and centers of research, cultural and scientific associations, academies and colleges, professional associations, private organizations, or those that who personally wish to receive the award.
The award which is granted in Baja California, seeks to recognize work done by an individual or collectively by scientists or technologists in the region. The winner will have recognition and an economic stimulus of 3,000 times the minimum wage (about 60 - 65 pesos or $13,642 – 14,779 US), said the document.
This year unlike in other years, the institutions may register more than one candidate. Also those who entered in previous years and were winners can participate. The participating areas are: natural sciences, medical sciences, agricultural, social, administrative, education, humanities, engineering and technology.

Nuevo León, Monterey - Pablo Andrés Serdio Villarreal, 22, was arrested, accused of producing and transmitting child pornography over the internet, reported the Secretariat of SSP Public Safety. The capture occurred as a result of intelligence and cabinet work carried out by federal agents using technology for analysis, research and monitoring in coordination with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children of the United States, reported a SSP release.
The official version says that thanks to the above, he was located in Nuevo Leon through email accounts with multiple images of minors. A team specialized in the collection, extraction and analysis digital evidence went to a residence located at Colonia Roma in Monterrey, to comply with a search warrant order.
According to authorities, they detained the suspect in possession of five laptops, a central processing unit (CPU), a desktop computer, three USB storage devices, a tablet computer and two external hard drives. In addition in the house, Julio Alberto Peña Fernández, 42, was also arrested in possession of six guns and four assault rifles.
The operation was thanks to sharing information by the Attorney General of the Republic and the United States Office of Internal Security Investigations, said the federal agency.
