Baja & Border News Translations: Village Property in Ruins; Accident Injures Pregnant Woman

Village Property in Ruins (El Vigia, 12/31/12 by Enrique Rojas)

Vicente Guerrero, BC - Built more than 10 years, the property meant for community use for funeral wakes is now in complete abandonment, only used by vandals in the area, to make graffiti and break all of the glass. The current state of the construction demonstrates the futility of efforts made by two municipal administrations, Jorge Antonio Catalán Sosa and César Mancillas Amador, to keep it in good condition for the benefit of the settlers.

The lack of culture of the population and lack of a police presence in the area caused the property to remain abandoned and without supervision. Located between secondary school 212 and the local municipal Pantheon, the property only retains its intended name, inscribed on one of its walls because it does not show anywhere that it has been ever used.

Of this situation, municipal delegate Justin Herrera Martinez spoke of having promoted actions to rescue the property and provide for its use, "Because it represents an important public investment". It reported a first request was submitted to the municipality for construction to have it become an extension of the secondary 212 and not end up in the current state.

The petition was stalled with the Director of the Educational Institution and he announced that they will deliver a second document to the same municipal office. The official acknowledged the effort mentioned by municipal authorities to offer the population a space for their funerals, but the majority of people do not use these spaces as a vigil for their dead. So that resources are not wasted, it is expected the property be transferred to the school to use as a library or some other use, "better than what we have now," he said. http://www.elvigia.net/noticia/abandonan-velatorio

Accident Injures Pregnant Woman (La Cronica, 12/31/12 by Saul D.Martinez)

MEXICALI, BC - Not maintaining a proper distance between cars caused an accident on busy road at peak travel time, when a driver injured a pregnant woman and another adult, reported facts registered on Sunday afternoon.

Traffic police and paramedics from the Director of Firefighters were sent to the incident on Boulevard Lazaro Cardenas at calle Bordo Wisteria around 2:30 p.m.

Santos García, about 55, was traveling in a Nissan Frontier pickup with plates AN46054, which was hit from behind by a sand color Saturn SC2 compact car with California plates 6HVH055.

In the Saturn, driven by Fermín Chávez, Manuela Labrador Perez, 27, was riding and presented as a couple months pregnant, so she was taken to a clinic of the SSN for review. http://www.lacronica.com/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Policiaca/31122012/655290.aspx
