San Pedro Mártir Records 30 Centimeters of Snow (EL MEXICANO, 12/29/12 by LUCIA GÓMEZ SÁNCHEZ)

Tijuana, BC - The Sierra de San Pedro Mártir National Park in Ensenada recorded temperatures of minus 13 degrees centigrade and offers a winter scene with 30 inches of accumulated snow. The natural park offers a winter spectacle and has cabins open to the public, but it is possible it will close if they continue to have descending temperatures as access to visitors will need to be prohibited in the next few days.

The cabin service has been a success since a few months ago and all are rented each weekend, said Ephraim Nieblas Ortiz, Secretary of Environmental Protection. She recalled that in the reserve interior there are four available cabins; two for up to 10 guests and two more for up to six guests. Each are equipped with hot water, a stove, beds and everything you need for a great stay. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/3/estatal/2012/12/28/639439/registra-san-pedro-martir-30-centimetros-de-nieve.aspx

Weather Provides for Intense BC Sierra Nevada Weekend (EL MEXICANO, 12/29/12)

BAJA CALIFORNIA - In the Sierra de Juárez, Baja California area, a heavy snowfall is expected which could cause low temperatures in the municipalities of Ensenada, Tecate, and Tijuana. Ahead of this forecast, José Luis Cossio Manríquez, State Civil Protection Coordinator, urged the community to not try to travel to mountain areas, since they are endangering their lives.

The official reported that to date, Sierra de San Pedro Mártir has a 12 inch layer of snow and access is open. Snowfall is expected for Sierra Juárez this Sunday. Cossio Manríquez mentioned that this weekend, it is expected lower temperatures will arrive with a cold front and showers in the region and snowfall in the Sierra.

Today, showers are predicted and approximately 20 centimeters of snow. The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported a minimum temperature of six degrees below zero overnight Saturday in Sonora, where the arrival of a cold front is expected in the next few hours. The Agency reported that the minimum temperatures will be below zero degrees in the North and East of the entity, while during the day; maximum temperatures won’t exceed 30 degrees. While the cold front passes through the Mexican Southeast, it will favor development of clouds and rainfall in the States of Veracruz, Tabasco, Chiapas and Oaxaca, as well as moderate rain in the Yucatan Peninsula, reported the National Weather Service. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/3/estatal/2012/12/29/639677/preven-una-intensa-nevada-en-sierra-de-bc.aspx
