Baja & Border News Translations: Secure Pets before Fireworks; Municipal Police Arrest 4 Thieves

Secure Pets before Fireworks (El Mexicano, 12/27/12)

Tijuana, BC - During the New Years Celebration, the 20th City of Tijuana recommends families keep their pets protected from fireworks, as fears of excessive noise causes them to be fearful in most households. The head of the Department of Animal Control of the Municipal Department of Health, Marco Antonio Tapia Miranda, mentioned it is common on these dates there are many recorded cases of dogs being lost or hit when attempting to flee the din of rockets.

The detonation of fireworks causes a high level of nervousness in dogs when their behavior is altered and they look for ways to abscond, he explained. Fearing this causes them to end up beaten, or even injured, by jumping against windows wanting to escape the noise.

He said that to avoid incidents of this nature, it is important that owners keep their animals inside the house or even go to a veterinarian to obtain something to sooth the dog. In this way, he said, you might prevent an animal from suffering any physical damage, fleeing and not returning home, and in the worst cases die when running away while trying to cross a street. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/3/estatal/2012/12/27/639111/recomiendan-cuidar-a-mascotas-ante-detonacion-de-cohetes.aspx

Municipal Police Arrest 4 Thieves (El Mexicano, 12/26/12)

Tijuana, BC - Municipal Police Officers arrested four suspected criminals accused of robbery with violence. In addition to recovering the loot, they seized firearms, a fake weapon and two knives.

The first arrest involved brothers, Miguel Ángel and Jesus Damian Coria Valdez, 38 and 29 respectively. The incident was around 2:40 p.m. yesterday, on calle Eusebio Kino in fraccionamiento Los Lobos. With a firearm, they threatened a cashier who handed over money and cigarettes, and before fleeing also stripped employees of money and valuables. They fled in a Honda car, but were soon afterwards intercepted by Municipal police in an Infonavit Presidents vehicle. The soldiers seized a bag with 14 packs of cigarettes, three cell phones and 920 pesos ($71 US).

Jesús Damián wore tucked at the waist, a fake gun and a kitchen knife, and in his pants pocket 1,380 pesos, the product of a recent robbery.

The Municipal Police also arrested Horacio García Encinas, 35, who is linked to a dozen robberies with violence at Oxxo stores during this month. He carried out his latest misdeed yesterday afternoon, in the branch located at Prolongación de Insurgentes in colonia Horóscopo. Witnesses stated that he intimidated an officer with a knife and took approximately 430 pesos ($33 US), in addition to a pack of cigarettes.

Finally, officers commissioned in the La Presa District arrested Raul Luque Armenta, 22, who attacked a passerby on calle Oscar Baylón Chacón in colonia El Pipila and took 100 pesos ($8 US). The thug hit the victim with a .22 caliber gun stock holding two cartridge shells. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/3/estatal/2012/12/26/638947/policia-municipal-saco-de-circulacion-a-4-ladrones.aspx
