Township Controls Use of Official Vehicles (El Vigia, 12/26/12 by Gerardo Sanchez)
Ensenada, BC - Ensenada municipal government is maintaining strict control of official vehicles to assure they are only used during official hours and for authorized activities, said Alfredo Cortés Castro, Director of Heritage Assets.
He pointed out the municipal vehicle fleet has more than 800 units, which encompass all types of vehicles; those that are active, under repair or in process of being dismantled because they are no longer in working condition. The units are distributed among different agencies, both in urban areas and the different municipal delegations.
He indicated that only top-level officials can use their vehicles 24-hours a day, based on the characteristics of their activities and when the situation is exceptional. There are very specific restrictions on schedules and activities in which a vehicle can be used, as well as the method of sheltering the vehicle and who authorizes the use. All this must be recorded in a logbook and control is the responsibility of respective department heads, said the official. http://www.elvigia.net/noticia/controla-municipio-unidades-oficiales
Few Traffic Problems at Christmas (El Vigia, 12/26/12 by Luis Miguel Ramirez)
Ensenada, BC - During Christmas Eve and Christmas, authorities of public safety, Municipal transit, Federal Police Division of Roads, as well as Civil Protection and the Firemen of Ensenada reported few problems. The Secretariat of Municipal Public Safety (SSPM) reported only 12 vehicle mishaps with damages were recorded; less than 10 of them were collisions between vehicles, predominated by a lack of cautious driving, but none were related to alcohol consumption.
Only two people were slightly injured and 15 drivers were ticketed for various misdemeanors. Jesus Alfredo Rosales Green, Director of Police and Municipal transit, reported that no drunk drivers were detected using breathalyzers at mobile, random checkpoints during the holiday season.
The Director of Firefighters reported there were no incidents in homes placing lives of people at risk, except for one fire caused by a gas leak and faulty electrical connections. It was mentioned, regrettably the use of pyrotechnics did occur. Rosales Green announced that mobile surprise checkpoints using breathalyzers will intensify in different parts of the city and especially on the night of December 31st. http://www.elvigia.net/noticia/saldo-blanco-en-navidad
