Police Arrest Pair of Shoplifters (La Cronica, 12/26/12)
MEXICALI, BC - A couple of subjects who entered two different supermarkets and took goods without paying, were arrested by members of the Municipal Police. A bulletin reported the first arrest was at 6:09 p.m. at an Oxxo self-service market located at Boulevards Lombardo Toledano and Lazaro Cardenas in colonia 6 de Enero. There, a 47-year-old man was arrested for being involved in the crime of theft from a business. An establishment employee said he surprised the accused when he saw a beer bottle under his sweatshirt and reported him to the police.
Later, at 8p.m. on the road to San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora and calle River San Angel, in the Valley of el Pedregal fractionation, another man was arrested when implicated in the same crime. In this case, a 55 year old man was arrested for the theft of toothpaste and deodorant.

Temporary Shelter has Opened 4 Times (La Cronica, 12/26/12 by Yerson Martinez)
MEXICALI, BC - The temporary shelter needed to be opened on four occasions this season due to low temperatures and offered attention for 51 people from Tuesday December 18 until Friday, December 22. Opening the Civil Protection temporary shelter is determined based on the climate or a contingent emergency and is manned and administered by the Municipal DIF.
In total, it has offered shelter during this season to 19 women and 32 men, including the migrant workers stranded on a bus last week. The facility provides daily socialization, support personnel and medical staff, Municipal DIF and Directorate of Municipal Public Security and Civil Protection so as to provide adequate care with quality, warmth, and safety for shelter guests.
The Coordinator of Social Communication of the Municipal DIF added the temporary refuge is located in the Municipal Recreation Center (CREA) with aims to provide service to migrants, homeless people, seniors and families, who are due to their condition, susceptible to low temperatures. As well, it gives attention to persons in such situations as being on the street or otherwise vulnerable to prevailing situations. They have access to the refuge without any specific time limit.
Among the services granted at the temporary refuge are medical evaluation, hot food, clean clothes, spaces divided by gender, personal hygiene articles and a capacity to accommodate up to 90 people.
