Baja & Border News Translations: Federal Road Surveillance Reinforced; A Woman and an Addict are Killed On Christmas Eve

Federal Road Surveillance Reinforced (El Mexicano, 12/24/12)

TIJUANA, BC - With the intention of avoiding more car accidents on roads that recently occurred on the Mexicali-Tecate Highway, Federal Police reinforced surveillance on area roads with a 12-hour shift. The State Coordinator of Federal Police (PF), Sergio Consuelo Ramírez, commented he already instructed all commanders in charge that officers should patrol highways with lighted units. The intention is to prevent drivers from using excessive speed, which is the main cause of accidents.

Officers work anti-crime 12-hour shifts at this time of the year to ensure surveillance all of the time and thus avoid more fatal accidents as the ones three days ago in La Rumorosa, he said. In those accidents least two people were killed, the PF Coordinator explained.

In one case, it was a lorry going to Guasave, Sinaloa, in another a bus had a mechanical failure of its brake system, and in an accident of a car, a minor died due to excessive speeding by the driver, he said. Consuelo Ramírez urged motorists who are going to drive on roads to first check their vehicle and not do so if they are tired; all this so they can reach their destination safe and well. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/3/estatal/2012/12/24/638654/refuerza-la-federal-vigilancia-carretera.aspx

A Woman and an Addict are Killed On Christmas Eve (El Mexicano, 12/24/12 by Said Betanzos)

TIJUANA, BC - On Christmas Eve, a woman and a man were killed at different places in the city. Agents of the Organized Unit of Premeditated Killings of the Attorney Against Crime (SCDO) investigated both crimes.

In the first reported case of the woman, the corpse was found on a neighborhood road in Valle de las Palmas. Around 9 a.m. yesterday detectives arrived and reported the victim was between 25 and 30 years of age. "She was shot in the head. By her dress we can determine she was of humble condition and by her physical features was arguably not addicted to any drugs", explained an agent in charge of the case. No bullet casing were found at the crime scene.

In the second case, an alleged drug addict was murdered inside an animal enclosure in colonia Jardines de La Mesa. Around 12:40 p.m. the discovery of a person without life was reported where ministerial agents arrived. The disused property is at number 9868 of calle Bugambilias, where the victim, about 30 years old was killed with a knife. Agents from the premeditated homicide unit were also investigating this crime. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/22/policiaca/2012/12/24/638618/matan-mujer-y-a-un-adicto.aspx
