Baja & Border News Translations: Young Man Dies From Apparent Overdose; Cachanillas Make Last-Minute Purchases

Young Man Dies From Apparent Overdose (La Cronica, 12/23/12 by Saul D.Martinez)

MEXICALI, BC - The body of a young man, 20, was found lifeless on the outside of a department store complex in Las Palomas fractionation, to the West of the city, where he shopped at a small grocery store.

Minutes after 11 a.m. on Sunday, a call to emergency numbers asked for the presence of paramedics at the corner of calles Luis Echeverría and Arqueólogos in the aforementioned fractionation. The reason was that a male person was unconscious, lying on the floor, when seconds earlier he was buying some food at a grocery store.

Paramedics declared the young man dead. He was apparently intoxicated with drugs, so Municipal police officers and the Public Ministry agent came forward to corroborate the facts.

Relatives of the young man identified him as Leopoldo Ventura España, a user of various drugs, so he allegedly died from a sudden overdose. http://www.lacronica.com/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/23122012/653220.aspx

Cachanillas Make Last-Minute Purchases (La Cronica, 12/23/12 by Victor Medina)

MEXICALI, BC - Trolleys, dolls, stuffed toys, tracks, toys of the most recognized characters for the kids and electronic devices such as MP3´s, videos games, and technological devices such as Ipods or Ipads, are potential gifts offered in the main department stores on Christmas Eve.

A large influx of people can be seen in the main commercial centers of the city, looking for all kinds of gifts, only a few hours prior to celebrating Christmas.

Such is the case of Eduardo Torres, who says that he has received requests for all kinds of toys from his children, "Ask Santa for cars, toys, skateboards, clothes, helicopter tracks".

What an expenditure that all represents, the citizen responded, "This is the first year that I have to buy gifts, and it is a lot of money to invest, but it does not matter when it is for the children," said Eduardo, who continued in his search for gifts accompanied by his family.

For his part Mr. Armando Carpio said he was somewhat rushed as the day comes upon him. "Here we are last-minute shopping, looking for the latest tidbits of what we are missing," he said. http://www.lacronica.com/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/23122012/653232.aspx
