Tijuana, BC - More than 400,000 mothers have been trained to detect diseases or serious illnesses that can cause the death of children. Temperatures, runny noses, convulsions, skin discoloration and other symptoms were taught to women so that they know how to detect these cases and act accordingly by taking their children for care to their nearest health center and avoid death.
Responsible for Sanitary Jurisdiction Number 2, Leticia Blake Rivera assures that after any children are referred in cases with the above symptoms, and the situation is complicated, the child can be transferred to the general hospital where they will obtain immediate and comprehensive care.
Dr. Blake said that during this holiday season, only 17 health centers stay open in Tijuana, and cover the absence of the other centers. The one in Rosarito stays open and it is known the Tecate Health Center does as well as three more in colonia Nueva Hindu, Rumorosa and Luis Echeverría.

Rains Help Identify Needed Work in Cañón Otay (El Sol de Tijuana, 12/21/12 by Daniel Angel)
Tijuana, BC - The rains this week allowed identification of locations needing work in Cañón Otay, claimed the man responsible for the delegation, José Osuna Camacho. The delegate indicated that although the initial forecast was for light rain or mild to moderate, the intensity was higher, causing minor problems that could be resolved.
Without many details, he said that some people were affected because water got into their homes and some reports of damage to retaining walls. He said the storm drainage worked properly and this is signal that measures functioned well and can prevent rainwater damage in Pastejé and Volcán de Toluca.
"Yes it overflowed, but only caused a problem of noncommunication for a few hours in colonia Libertas called Rainwater Cañón Otay", he said. The situation allowed them to learn where there are problems caused when the rains come, since it could affect the lower colonia Libertad.
"It will require preventive works, dredging, work on a bridge that was made without knowing adequate levels so we are now addressing these issues that will allow us to better prepare ourselves", stressed the delegate Osuna Camacho.
