Baja & Border News Translations: Cold Weather to Continue; Student Vacation Begins

Cold Weather to Continue (Tijuana Press, 12/18/12 by Nora Leticia)

Tijuana, BC - The State Directorate of Civil Protection in the State issued a notice, starting tomorrow, there will be clear skies in Tijuana however the climate will remain cold in the city.

Despite the sunny days, the climate will continue to be cold. On Wednesday and Thursday, the temperature will be a maximum of 17°C (62° F) and a minimum of 7°C (44° F), so it is recommended to take precautions to avoid disease.

In this regard the Baja California Secretariat of Health issued a statement urging all to take extra precautions to avoid cases of hypothermia. Visitors to the mountainous areas between Rumorosa and Tecate, as well as the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir, are recommended to be well-clothed, wear gloves, a scarf and a hat. Mainly infants and elderly aged 60 and over.

The authorities recalled that hypothermia consists in a loss of heat at body temperatures of 35°C (95°F) or less. During cold climates, blood is diverted from the skin and the extremities of the body to conserve, protect and maintain temperatures in the middle part of the body; consequently the distant parts of the body are most exposed to the ambient temperatures.

The following are recommendations for the winter season: use heavy wool clothing, a scarf, gloves and a hat; ingest liquids and foods high in calories in amounts greater than usual; avoid going outdoors immediately after bathing; and don’t go on trips to places with extreme cold. http://www.tijuanapress.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8456:seguira-clima-frio-en-tijuana&catid=1:locales&Itemid=50
