Baja & Border News Translations: Water Rate Increase Proposed Due to Energy Costs; La Rumorosa Remains Open but Snow Continues

Water Rate Increase Proposed Due to Energy Costs (El Mexicano, 12/15/12 by Lucia Gomez Sanchez)

TIJUANA, BC - A 5% increase in drinking water rates were proposed by the State Commission of Public Services of Tijuana (CESPT) for its projected costs before the State Congress. This is due to increases in energy used by PEMEX and will represent an additional cost of 70 million pesos (US $5.5 million), Hernando Durán Cabrera, director of the CESPT reported.

He explained that a family that consumes a monthly average of 15 cubic meters will pay 9 or 10 pesos ($ .70 - .80 US) more each month and the amount is not considered a significant increase. He said that in 2013, the drinking water operation will spend 70 million pesos more in energy costs this year, due to the rise in prices for electrical services needed to pump water from the Colorado River. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/3/estatal/2012/12/15/636564/proponen-aumentar-tarifa-de-agua-por-incrementos-en-insumos.aspx

La Rumorosa Remains Open but Snow Continues (El Mexicano, 12/15/12 by Lucia Gomez Sanchez)

TIJUANA, BC - While it is still snowed during the morning in La Rumorosa, it was not necessary to close the road, so it is still open to traffic, but the State Directorate of Civil Protection requests drivers take precautions. Alfredo Escobedo Ortiz, head of the Agency said that snowfall in La Rumorosa was mild and the pavement has not crystallized, but it is necessary to take precautions. He commented that in the parque nacional Sierra de San Pedro Mártir, it also continued to snow and the accumulation is over 12 inches. The Park is closed because roads are not in traveling condition and are extremely dangerous. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/3/estatal/2012/12/15/636552/sigue-abierta-la-rumorosa-pero-continuo-nevando.aspx
