Border News Translations: Pet Food Hijacked; 1 Accident; Police get Training

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, 5/28/11) - A kidnapped truck driver was released the Friday night in the northern zone and seven people were arrested. According to police information, yesterday at 7 p.m. received a report of a person outside a bar in the North where a man claimed he had been robbed. Arriving at there, they met Néstor Christopher Álvarez, 28, who indicated he came from Queretaro in a trailer carrying dog food. He stated that when he got to Tijuana he was deprived of his liberty by an individual identified as Adolfo Benjamin Rosas Escobar, 46, in the company of other people who kept him captive in Hotel García in the Coahuila Valley. Officials went to the hotel where they arrested Luis Enrique Quevedo Ramirez and Carlos Alfonso Martínez Estrada, both 44. The victim reported they dropped the merchandise from the trailer into a house in the second alley of calle Coahuila. Also arrested there were Sonia Castillo Rivera 33; Osmar Alexis Hernández Pérez, 26; Eduardo Rocha Gaxiola, 46 and Lino Sánchez Valdez, 26. Packages (419) of different sizes of Pedigree and Whiskas brands dog and cat food were seized. The detainees indicated the box of the trailer was moved into calle Mariano Escobedo in colonia Castillo; however, the tractor could not be located.

The impact of the two vehicles was reported around 3 p.m. on the puente Lázaro Cárdenas a few blocks from the Cruz Roja (Red Cross). Onboard the F-250 pickup was two women with few injuries, while the Nissan Quest van was operated by an older person that had to be released from the car with hydraulic equipment.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, 5/28/11) - 96 municipal and auxiliary police, and commercial agents graduated from the Instituto de Capacitación y Adiestramiento (Institute for Training and Vocational Training) as part of ongoing quality police theoretical and practical training. They received two-week courses on "Criminal proceedings in oral trials", "Strengthening of police efforts" "Updates for commercial police" and "Basics for auxilary officers". With these figures, there are 922 active graduates in the “criminal proceedings in oral trials” course since July 2010. Police officers are constantly evaluated, both in theory and in practice, so on occasion the graduates complete training.
