Border News Translations: Church Posse; City Gas Thieves

MEXICALI BC (La Voz, Juan Galvan, 5/25/11) - The Municipal Public Safety (DSPM), the Bishop of the Apostolic Church and aldermen of the XX Municipality of Mexicali agreed to establish preventive management strategies in the 42 congregations and churches in Mexicali and its Valley. These actions are being taken in order to safeguard identified centers of chronic theft. Marco Antonio Carrillo Maza, Director of Public Security and Isaac López, Bishop of the Apostolic Church, agreed to implement immediate actions. They will develop a social network and an information blog. Officers of the DSPM will go to each of the churches to maintain permanent posts and establish other surveillance appropriate to the needs of the membership. The Councillor, Claudia Herrera Rodríguez and the pastor of two congregations were at that meeting. They requested the participation of the ministry municipal corporation (police), to provide information about prevention measures and crime rates for homes, cars and other property. For its part, Bishop López stated that they are willing to work hand in hand with the police. They know the effort required and risks they are exposed to every day. Therefore, every day our prayers are with them.

MEXICALI BC (La Voz, Juan Galvan, 5/26/11) - After an investigation police managed the red-handed capture of Ernesto Cabrera Jácome, working at the Directorate of Public Security. Also arrested were Francisco "n", 31 and Dulce "n", 25. Still pending capture are four more suspects whose identities were not revealed. Municipal President Francisco Perez Tejada Padilla confirmed the theft of fuel from the Town Hall and ordered an estimate to determine if such thefts were occuring since the last administration. The first mayor explained that they discovered, at 3:30 pm yesterday, a person operating a pickup truck purposely take fuel. Unofficially we know gasoline has been taken in the order of the 50,000 pesos ($4300) a month, but believe it amounts to more. For the time being, the detainee - whose identity was not revealed - was being held available to the Public Prosecutor's Office. The names of the others involved were not released. On the other hand, it does not preclude the possibility another suspect arrested by the Preventive State Police (PEP) was selling illicit gasoline is related to this case. Francisco "n" and Dulce “n” were found with 6-full 50-liter barrels and the capacity to hold 300 more liters. This required some explanation. The suspects stated they sold it after stealing it from parked vehicles. Their capture was achieved through an anonymous complaint to the 089-call line. PEP agents arrested the two persons allegedly engaged in the illegal sale of gasoline on calle Dominica in fraccionamiento Misión de San Francisco Javier.
