Border News Translations: Missing Children; Counterfeit Pesos

TIJUANA BC (En Linea Tijuana, Henry Mondragon, 5/24/11) - In Mexico, since the beginning of the year there have been 150 missing children cases, 75 of them have already been recovered, said Maria Elena Solis Gutierrez, President of Asociación Mexicana de Niños Robados y Desaparecidos (Mexican Association of Stolen Children and Missing Persons) (AMNRDAC). During her visit to the city of Tijuana, on the implementation of the Network Program Binational Hearts, the President of AMNRDAC, said none of these cases has been in Baja California. Maria Elena Solis said that 2010 closed with 355 cases of stolen or missing children, of which it managed to recover 100 children, aged 7 to 12 years of age. With implementation of the "Amber Alert" program throughout the country, the authorities, particularly society will play an important role in the recovery of missing children, she said. She pointed out that in cities across the country there is kidnapping of minors, in areas such as Ecatepec, the State of Mexico, and in the South of our country, "but in general" anywhere in the Republic. The President of AMNRDAC commented that the people involved in committing such illegal acts intend to commit illegal adoptions in and outside our country, child labor exploitation and prostitution. Maria Elena Solis pointed out that recovery of minors can take days or years, but it requires the participation of society and involvement of anonymous complaints. For its part, the Attorney General of Justice in Tijuana, Martha Imelda Almanza Topete, said that two Amber alerts were issued in Baja California during 2010 and one in 2011, all three were minors. Almanza Topete noted that in juvenile cases, immediate action is essential to achieve recovery of a child. It is therefore important to use the media and in particular the help of society. Likewise, she stated there are 140 open complaints of missing children; however, derived through investigation, many are determined to be children who voluntarily leave their family home or one of the parents.

TIJUANA BC (En Linea Tijuana, 5/24/11) - State Preventive Police (PEP) arrested an individual in possession of 4,500 pesos in counterfeit banknotes and American and Mexican identity documents of multiple people. The arrest took place on calle Fuerte in colonia Campestre Murua, where PEP observed a suspicious person who tried to hide among vehicles parked on the street. PEP officers arrested the individual identified as Julian Everardo Sánchez Melendres, 42. From Sánchez Melendres they seized: fifteen 200 pesos banknotes and three 500 pesos banknotes, all apparently counterfeit. Furthermore, the subject carried among his belongings five US Social Security cards, four US birth certificates, five American driver's licenses and five Mexican passports, all documents with names of different people. In addition, on avenida Principal in colonia Lázaro Cárdenas, PEP arrested Aaron Dario Vargas Lopez, 32. His personal data was confirmed through the center of Control, Command, Communication, and Computer (C4). He was arrested for a warrant for the offense of theft issued on May 20 by Juzgado Primero de lo Penal. Arrested persons were held pending their disposition by the jurisdiction in each case.
