TIJUANA BC (El Lineas Tijuana, 5/23/11) - In Baja California today around 470,000 pupils in basic education took the Enlace test, said Javier Santillán, head of the Ministry of Education and Social Welfare. He added this year the challenge would be in getting a better position level in high school. The start of the test was set up by the head of the Ministry of Education, Javier Santillán, located in Zona Rio in the company delegated by the State educational system in Tijuana, César Sánchez, Pensador Mexicano (Mexican thinker) of primary school. Traditionally we have obtained results in primary and high school; however, in high school we have noticed stagnation in regards to results, commented Javier Santillán. Children from 3rd grade to 6th grade of primary school and the three years of secondary education will be tested in mathematics, Spanish and this year, in geography. The optional subject changes each year, he explained. He said that children of 1,691 primary and 600 secondary schools would have three days to complete the national assessment of the scholastic achievement test at their school. Javier Santillán indicated that for primary, Baja California is within the top ten places, while high school is within the top five in the country. "However in high school there is a stalemate. We are number 21st place for the country, which is why we will be placing special emphasis on this education level," he said. The owner of the educational system insisted: "The litmus test is with high school. In addition, we will apply a test to improve the mechanisms of education that translates into better results".

ENSENADA BC (El Lineas Tijuana, 5/22/11) - The authorities are working in close coordination and collaboration with organizers of the tourism sector in Ensenada for the next running of the world-famous off road Baja 500 race. It will take place from June 2nd to 5th, reported the Secretary of State Tourism Juan Tintos Funcke. The State official mentioned that one of the strengths and main reasons that this group of national tourists and foreigners come to Baja California is the calendar of tourist events, which this year will reach 300 in number. It includes sports, gastronomic festivals and those relating to the wine industry, among others. He said that of all the municipalities in the State, it is the Port of Ensenada, which has the largest number of events. Since the beginning of the year there have already been very important events planned. The name of Ensenada is at national and international levels. "But these events also serve as witness when people return to their places of origin with a good image and perception of Ensenada and Baja California," he said. Some of the events that have been successful in the State have been the Baja 250 race, the Regata of New Port Beach, the Ensenada race and the traditional bicycle ride from Rosarito to Ensenada, as well as gastronomic and artistic events, many of these related to the wine route. In the case of the San Felipe 250 race, the owner of SECTURE indicated that it is has been working in coordination with the municipality of Ensenada, Proturismo (the public trust of tourist promotion) to give all the necessary approvals for completion of the Edition 43 of in the Baja 500 race. This year it is expected to have the participation of 250 teams from 25 parts of the United States and several countries among which are Canada, Germany, Guatemala, Japan, and of course Mexico. Also for this event, in which participate world class "off road" drivers, there will be extraordinary coverage of regional, national and international media on television and radio and in newspapers and magazines. On the other hand, he mentioned, the race is expected to improve hotel occupancy and better the economics of restaurants, gas stations and shops not only in Ensenada but along the route. The race will run from the port towards Ojos Negros to then go down to the desert and skirt the sea of Cortez in the area of San Felipe, municipality of Mexicali. Later it rises until you reach the Valley of the Trinity and reach the Pacific Ocean in the region of San Vicente, climb to Santo Tomas and return to the port of Ensenada for the finish. The Secretary of tourism of the State indicated that in the coming days they will be giving more details about this event of International interest and recognized the work and coordination that has been achieved between the various authorities and tourist workers to carry out this edition.
