JUAREZ CHIH (El Dario, 5/15/11) - The Commissioner of the National Institute of migration, Salvador Beltran del Rio, reported that the Agency is investigating 200 of its staff members, 40 of them for grave irregularities of their performance. They face legal inquiries and could be terminated. Beltran del Rio said the officials include two attached to the southern border, in Chiapas, who were removed from their positions after being accused by undocumented women of forced prostitution. In a message about actions for cleansing the INM, Beltrán del Río announced that next week around 1,500 staff persons shall be subjected to various tests of control of confidence, toxicological, polygraph and blood. INM was recently involved in a scandal involving seven staff members for the alleged delivery of migrants who had been arrested to organized crime gangs. Beltrán del Río assured the INM is working closely with its staff to thoroughly inquire about six of the people working in the INM, since the migrants could identify them as responsible for handing them over to kidnappers.
PIEDRAS NEGRAS COAH (Zocalo, Orchid López Allec, 5/15/11) - In order to avoid the proliferation of mosquitoes, the IMSS urged residents to take measures, as the rainy season and high temperatures come to Piedras Negras, classic conditions for hemorrhagic dengue. According to Gregorio Jesus Quiroz Serrano, medical director of Unidad de Medicina Familiar número 79, it is important to empty places and containers that accumulate water as this encourages the emergence of the mosco that makes transmission of these diseases. He pointed out that the mosco Aedes Aegypti bites people causing classic dengue or hemorrhagic and it can proliferate in places serving as breeding grounds such as useless tires, old cans, bottles, etc. It is also important to apply Abbé (larvicide) in deposits of water standing in water tanks, cisterns, swimming pools, dairy farms, air conditioners, and so on. He explained that dengue is known commonly as "bearded" or "track", because the person suffers from intense pain of bones, muscles and head, fever and a severe malaise for several days. "There is no vaccine or specific disease treatment, so preventive measures are the best and they can be taken in every home", he said. Therefore, he pointed out, that the mosco transmits the virus by a bite and it is raised in any water tank, inside, outside and around the house, where the female lays eggs, which are then transformed into larvae and pupae where left; in five to seven days, it becomes an adult mosco.
