PIEDRAS NEGRAS, COAH (Zocalo, Editorial, 5/12/11) - Elements of the Secretariat of the Navy will be installed in permanent camps at bases in the towns of Piedras Negras, Nava and Allende for at least the next 45 days, according to the unit. According to their information, yesterday they presented the mayors of these three municipalities’ the applications for municipal property use as a naval base for at least 45 days as a Navy Mexico Marina. Among the specifications they asked for are restrooms, the ability to support 200 sailors and parking for more than 35 vehicles. Two mayors confirmed this request. It has not been answered by the other mayor because it will depend on availability of those spaces that may be scheduled for events in the next month and a half. Precisely the period asked for by the Navy in municipal buildings coincides with 45 days of deployment starting next Monday. That is the period of political campaigns in pursuit for Governor of Coahuila. It would end on July 3, the day of the vote. Almost 200 Navy sailors arrived at Piedras Negras on May 1 to perform patrol operations in the region before a visit by President Felipe Calderón, which was then cancelled.
