Border News Translations: Sewer Thefts; Bank Robbery; No Hezbollah Here

Mexicali, BC (El Observador DIARIO, 5/3/11) - 90 to 100 lids of the sewage system are stolen weekly said representatives of the State Commission of public services of Mexicali (CESPM). This weekly theft faced by the Agency seriously affects both the decentralized agency and the population in general. So informed the Director-General of the CESPM, Miguel Angel González Barriga, who pointed out that because of this situation they have had to develop lids of concrete cement in order to reduce this type of illicit behvior and discourage those who take and sell as "old iron". He reiterated that they are already testing use of non-metallic materials such as concrete polymer and that they will soon undergo bidding to acquire new "plastic". He also said that the theft of the lids like water meter is a problem experience in different areas of the city and that each of the ten offices in the zone is developing its own concrete cement covers to temporarily solve the problem. González Barriga explained that as well as measuring instruments, the lids must comply with rules for resistance, safety, durability, pollution and other aspects. He commented that stolen meter and sewer covers represent a serious operation and economic damage to the agency because in addition to the cost of replacement, they have to allocate personnel to not affect their main function of water quality and service to users. "These criminal acts accounted for during 2010 for the CESPM, economic damage of slightly more than 2.5 million pesos ($212,000)," concluded González Barriga.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Luis Gerardo Andrade, 5/6/11) - A bank on Boulevard Agua Caliente was robbed, presumed by only one man participated. The robbery occurred at a branch of Santander Bank, in colonia Marrón. While authorities continued to investigate they mentioned the assailant was young. Apparently went to the lockbox area and threatened employees with a gun to make them hand over the money they had available; the amount taken is unknown at this time. Witnesses reported to authorities that the young man climbed into a free taxi and escaped. However, that information has not been confirmed, as of 1 p.m. on Friday.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Luis Gerardo Andrade, 5/6/11) - The Government said that there is no evidence of the presence of a cell of Hezbollah in Tijuana, considered a terrorist group with its roots in the Middle East. Thus unveiled it Rommel Moreno Manjarrez, Justice of the State Procurator, who said that not been told about the presence of a similar group. The information was disseminated through an American communication and any evidence should be considered sensitive.
