Border News Translations: Migrant Boatload Sinks; Evidence is Important; 2 Found Dead; Homicides are the Common Type

ROSARITO BC (Frontera, 5/6/11) - Around 16 undocumented migrants were rescued by the Navy of Mexico in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Rosarito, then sank the boat in which they were traveling. Undocumented immigrants seeking to enter the United States, now more often by sea are often aboard fragile small boats. The Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico reported on Thursday through a statement that the boat of migrants apparently collided with a buoy and sunk. The release added migrants pointed out the smuggler who led them on the odyssey, was picked up by another ship and fled after the accident, leaving its passengers abandoned to their fate of floating in the ocean.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Luis Gerardo Andrade, 5/6/11) - With the intention to coordinate and not spoil evidence found at the scene of a crime, authorities gathered today at the central command of the Municipal police. The General Office of Justice of the State (PGJE) who carried out the training, was attended by members of all police agencies, as well as firefighters from Tijuana and Red Cross personnel. Fermín Gómez Gómez, Assistant Attorney against Organized Crime of the PGJE, reported that it is important to collect all the signs at the scene of the crime with the intention of solving all cases. Although there has been some negligence, often the authorities act correctly and this course is to strengthen coordination.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Laura Durán, 5/6/11) - In the span of an hour two men were found dead in different parts of the city. The first was found in the trunk of a car set on fire. The second was found between two mattresses in his home. The body of a man between 30 and 35 years was found in a vehicle that had been burned on a calles transversales del Río Tijuana, above Clínica 1 del Imss. Around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, a vehicle was reported in flames. The vehicle, apparently a Honda Accord model 94 or 95, was consumed by the flames. The body of a man was found in the trunk before firefighters managed to extinguish it. Agents of colonia Arboledas de la delegación de Los Pinos agreed the man was between 30 and 35 years and suffered 60% burns. Witnesses pointed out that after setting fire to the car, the suspects fled in a white Ram pick-up truck. The second death was reported around 8:30 p.m. on calle Isla de Cedros en la colonia Santa Fe, de la delegación San Antonio de los Buenos. So far, it is unknown how he died. It is only known that he was found in his home in the middle of two mattresses.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Luis Gerardo Andrade, 5/6/11) - The most recent killings were of the common type, stated Fermín Gómez Gómez, PGJE Assistant Attorney against Organized Crime. He pointed out this was the case with the woman found inside the trunk of a car abandoned in a parking lot, near the San Ysidro entry. With regard to the person who was killed at the entrance of a hotel Pueblo Amigo, the Assistant Attorney noted that apparently it was a casino. He was killed by a single person. The victim has not been identified.
