Border News: School Money Needed; Five Captured; Human Remains Found

TIJUANA BC (El Sol de Tijuana, Sonia García Ochoa, 6/13/11) - Government must invest at least 740 million pesos ($62 million) for the maintenance and equipment in schools to work properly and achieve the objective of giving enough student space at all levels of education. Roger Alexander Gudiño Valenzuela, Secretary General of Section 2 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), said, in Baja California there is still a large backlog in infrastructure, which prevents compliance with 100% of the demand for spaces, especially in high school. The master considered the joint work between teachers, parents and educational authorities will be a definitive formula that generates permanent modernization of teaching, but infrastructure is needed because the population explosion is well underway. He said that in Section 2 of the Magisterium in Baja California "the doors are open to the scrutiny of society as we should be held accountable". Gudiño Valenzuela explained that they currently have 902,000 students enrolled at different educational levels in BC, of which 750,000 are in public schools. They expect the best quality of education and it has improved over time as the Government provides tools for teachers. The leader stated education workers should always count on timely payments, incentives and preparation of reforms. Changes to the programs and guidelines have to be projected for the classrooms, at the same time promoting participation of parents to do their share.
