Border News Translations 27: Theme Park is Ready; Two Get Extradited from Mexico

Frontera TIJUANA – The Morelos y de la Amistad Park will be ready to receive families not leaving the city during the holiday season, said Veronica Crown González, Director of Theme Park System Tijuana (Simpatt). She mentioned that the Association of Engineers repaired the slides as many had corrosion of their structures. An in-depth review was required because of the possibility of more damaged areas. "Once inspections are finished, we will take necessary measures so the area is in perfect condition and there are no accidents. So this Holy Week, children will not have slides, but they are otherwise ready for summer", said Crown González. She said there is particular emphasis on park safety, not only against vandalism, but also in providing protection for the families who come, so they are rehabilitating kiosks, bathrooms, cages and other facilities. So far, 25,000 thousand people visited on Sunday, the largest attendance of the season. They can expect increased visits with favorable temperatures and the holidays, which usually result in the same amount of visits or even more. For this reason, they also intend to open the west area of the Park, which was somewhat neglected due to lack of irrigation, but they are already working to open the area and have adequate capacity to accommodate more people.

Frontera TIJUANA – The Government of Mexico gave United States two alleged assassins of Fernando Sánchez Arellano known as "The Engineer" for criminal offenses in the U.S. He belonged to the Ministerial police. The Attorney General's Office (PGR) reported Jorge Antonio Ortega Nuño, was extradited first. He also has the alias of José Antonio Ortega Nuño. He was in the ranks of the police, attached to the city of Tijuana where even held important posts. At the time of his arrest, he was in charge of the Sex Crime Unit of the PGJE. He was arrested with Jesus Quiñónez Márquez, former Director of International Liaison of the PGJE, and member of the "Luz Verde" group. The second extradited man was Jorge Alberto Ramírez Ponce, who used the names "Jorge Alberto Ponce Ramírez", "Jorge Alberto", "Jorge Alberto Ponce" and the nickname "El Betote" – the kisser. The two were wanted for prosecution of organized crime offenses by the the Southern District of California Federal District Court. From November 2008 until July 2010, they formed part of Fernando Sánchez Arellano cartel. They worked as assassins in the organization, collecting debts of the lives of defaulters, wiping-out enemies, and violent robberies and abductions. They are also charged with money laundering from drug-traffic sales in the United States. Based on the Extradition Treaty between Mexico and the United States, Mexico extradites Mexican fugitives. The Federal Investigation Agency (AFI) located and arrested the defendants on September 7, 2010 who were then housed in the Federal District Men’s Criminal Prison. The extradition agreement was strong and enforceable. All legal challenges the claimants were entitled to were exhausted. The exchange operation was held today at the Mexico City International Airport, where the AFI gave the men to United States Bureau Federal of Intelligence Agents (FBI are it’s initials in English).
