Border News Translations 18: $2000 Bribe Refused

In a April 17, 2011 in a report published by El Sol de Tijuana, two individuals with 17 kilos of marijuana in their possession intended to escape by offering a $2,000 bribe to State Preventive Police Agents (PEP). They rejected the extortion attempt and turned offenders Oscar Saucedo Garcia, 38 and Álvaro Montes Rodriguez, 36, over to federal authorities.

The arrest was accomplished thanks to a citizen complaint regarding the distribution of illegal substances in colonial Hacienda Santa Cecilia, which led the PEP to the right place, at Avenue Canutillo, where immediately they found a Ford Mustang with the same features provided by the complainant.

When the agents used their lights and sirens, the suspected driver accelerated at high speed but was soon intercepted when they stopped behind another vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee. On their arrest, PEP officers inspected the car and in the trunk found twelve packages of marijuana. In addition, one agent found the keys to the Jeep Cherokee, which was also searched and found to have two more packages of marijuana in the back.

Attempting to be set free without arrest, Oscar Saucedo García gave officials $2000 in $20 bills, after the first vehicle was inspected, so they would let them go. PEP officers rejected the bribe in a resounding manner. They were arrested forthwith and turned over to the Federal Public Ministry for processing of their charged crimes.
