BORDER NEWS TRANSLATIONS 6: Way Up In Smoke

El Linea Tijuana, one of the city’s daily news periodicals reported the Mexico Attorney General's Office (PGR) incinerated seven tons of drugs and 126,000 pirated products on Friday in accordance with Mexican law.

The PGR said the destruction program complies with provisions of Federal Code criminal procedures Article 181 providing for the destruction of objects and instruments of crime. It also assured the state incineration of various drugs is in accordance with Federal Criminal Code Article 40 to destroy stored materials related to criminal investigation cases.

The destruction event was held at the 28th Infantry Battalion’s Aguaje de the Tuna installation, Tijuana, in the presence of government authorities and staff of PGR’s Internal Affairs Unit.

Authorities verified the authenticity and weight of the narcotics and other material consisting of the following:

Seven tons of marijuana 30 grams of methamphetamine 25 grams of heroin 2 pounds of cocaine 199 marijuana plants 27 grams of marijuana seeds 126,000 compact discs and DVDs, among other items

A PGR spokesperson also emphasized that such actions are part of the Federal Government’s strategy to protect the integrity and the rights of persons throughout the country and a demonstration of individual guarantees in a prompt and expeditious manner.

In other drug war news, Mexican army troops seized one ton of marijuana, along with vehicles and weapons in two Mexicali safe houses following statements given by eight Ministerial State Police agents arrested for alleged links with organized crime.

164 packages of marijuana weighting, totalling one ton and four vehicles were seized in an alleyway in Colonia Santa Clara, where Ministerial Police Officer Ricardo Muñoz, "El Choche", managed to flee when alerted of the military operation.
