This year's Encanto Street Fair and Cultural Arts Festival promises to be an interesting affair both for the entertainment and for its political ramifications (which could prove to be even more entertaining).
The steet fair is the first major public gathering in the most eastern part of Southeast San Diego along the Encanto Branch watershed and the San Diego Trolley Orange Line since the very public announcement of the recall campaign against incumbent Tony Young, now the current 4th District council representative and until very recently, the most recent Catfish Club Golden Child to hold that still-untainted-by-criminal-conviction public office.
If the recall petition people aren't going to be there, then where are they?!?
For motorists, don't plan on doing any driving on Imperial Avenue in Encanto tomorrow (Sunday, August 17). Your best bet on moving through Encanto to Lemon Grove or LG to downtown SD will be the Orange Line. Just be sure to use your handy-dandy Beijing Olympics face mask when passing near the old Encanto Gas Holder site... and remember, it takes at least 100 micro-fibers of exposure to friable asbestos to constitute a significant exposure event to that cancer-causing substance... Have a nice day!
According to the http://www.encantostreetfair.com/ web site, there will be two outdoor music stages featuring numerous jazz, R&B, blues, Latin, urban and other performers between 10am and 8pm. Admission is $7 for adults, with children under 10 admitted for free, and there should be a selection of children's activities and events throughout the venue between 65th and 68th Streets along Imperial Avenue.
