Street Party Time Again

It's been a great weekend for parties. There was the 40th anniversary of Chicano Park, Little Italy Art Walk, and the Adams Avenue Roots Festival.

Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the Roots Festival, but I made an appearance at the other two. The Chicano Park party had a great exhibition of lowrider cars.

Below is a picture of the Brown Berets on stage at the celebration, maybe shouting ¡Viva el Parque!

Little Italy Art Walk needs no introduction to San Diego residents. It seems to get bigger every year. The Art Walk, as can be seen from the picture below, is exactly as its name describes. Contestants walk the 10k course with a large piece of art. They must walk with the piece until they manage to sell it to a spectator. They are then allowed to run the rest of the course. The winning time is a combination of time taken to finish the course and penalty time added for selling the art below the judge's estimate of market value. Bonus seconds can also be deducted for selling above estimated value. Tactics differ between contestants who prefer to take the first offer and dash for the line and those who try to get the best price and improve their bonuses.
