When I reached 32 years of age I began to experience seasonal allergies. It took another fifteen years before I found the cure for this miserable, expensive problem. Over the counter allergy medications have life endangering side effects, from sleepiness behind the wheel of a car, to stroke. A Doctor will conduct tests and still prescribe something that in the long run can endanger your health.
This simple solution that I'm speaking of- local, raw, honey. Where is it? A teaspoon a day throughout the allergy season is all I need. I went to Henry's in La Mesa first. Logical choice? Right? Henry's has a sign promoting local, raw, honey, but the product was nowhere to be found.
Now what? Well, I conducted a local internet search. Came up with Oakley's Honey Farm, the closest location was El Cajon. I called and was told that Oakley's does not sell to the public. They sell to Sue Bee, which takes their product, filters it, pasteurizes it and sells it packaged in the form of little bears. Cute, but useless.
Filtering and pasteurization removes the compounds which make local, raw, honey valuable as a food product.
I am stubborn.
Next, I called the local Bee Keepers Association, and struck out once again.
I need your help. Where can I find local, raw, honey?
I'm itching, I'm scratching, I'm sniffing.
Those are the socially acceptable symptoms. I haven't killed anyone yet, but, I have hurt peoples feelings.
In the meantime I am juicing and consuming massive amounts of oranges, lemons, blackberries, and ginger root. The natural histamines in the citrus combined with the ginger packs a powerful punch in my fight against socially unacceptable behavior.
