Initial Victory may be lost in all of the re-staging

A couple of nights ago, at the Civic Center Plaza, where the Occupy San Diego movement is holding camp, I witnessed something QUITE REMARKABLE.

Let me start by explaining that over the last couple of days, the SDPD had been telling people that no more generators, tents, tables and other such supplies of bulk, would be allowed into our plaza encampment.

So... Last night, when the police came upon a couple of recently set up tables they stated to people, “Hey, get these out of here now, or else we‘re going to take action.” Well, a couple of us decided to move them out per the police demand. The first table was brought up to the street for removal but as the second table was being moved, some of the original group that had actually brought IN the tables, asked, “Wait, where are you going with that?” The answer was stated that, the police wanted the table to be moved out of here. This defiant group of youthful energy, then said, “No, that’s not going to happen and where’s the other table?“ They then proceeded to walk up towards the main entrance of the plaza, where the other table had been moved for removal.

Now this is where the story gets even better. This youthful and fearless group, of about 20 in number, and with a somewhat rebellious and a damn the torpedoes attitude, proceeded to sit themselves down on the concrete and chant at the police that they wanted their table back and that they were not going to budge until it was relinquished to them. As 8 to 10 police had them surrounded, this stand-off went on for a few minutes. The situation was tense, to say the least. In the end, the police ultimately relinquished the table to the group and a celebratory cheer went up as they marched themselves victoriously back to there tents.

Afterwards, some scolded the group a bit about endangering all and they listened for the most part, showing some respect for the opposing viewpoint.

In the end, I wish to commend the group for their bravery and for standing up within the realm of civil disobedience. There will come times as we proceed down this uncharted path of protest where individuals who stand tall such as the brave souls we witnessed tonight, will truly be appreciated and cherished.
