Football Hero and Football Zero

I was watching the Tonight Show last night. Conan is so funny, and it was great seeing him talk to the Chula Vista all-star baseball team. One 13-year-old pitcher is 6'2" and almost as tall as O'Brien.

The accomplishment of these kids, as well as the good sportsmanship they've been showing, doesn't happen in all sports endeavors.

I saw video of Oregon State running back LeGarrette Blount punching a Boise State player (he should punch his mom for giving him that name). Apparently, the Boise player came over to shake hands after the game and said something other than "Hey...good game." Although, that's not an excuse to punch someone. It is poor sportsmanship, though. And I hope that player gets in trouble as well.

I do find it interesting that players often want to resort to punches after a little smack talking on the field. If you're that much of a headcase that you can't handle it, you have no business being on the field. You need to be in a mental hospital.

On the subject of football players and punching, there's a great movie coming out called "Big Fan" and starring comedic genius Patton Oswald (on this site, go to the movie section for a contest to win tickets to see it).

He gets punched by his favorite player when he approaches him in a nightclub. Great premise for a film, that these days, is probably hitting too close to home (pun intended).

One high school football player did do something right.

It's 6'4" Kaleb Eulls, who was on a bus when a 14-year-old girl pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot girls that had been tormenting her.

A few of the reports talk about how he wrestled the gun from her (as if it would be hard for a huge football player to do that). But it does take some major league (foot) balls to try and disarm anyone, knowing that you could easily be shot.

Kaleb grabbed the gun, jumped off the bus...and shot four of the opposing players.

Okay, I made that part up, just to see if you were paying attention.

He did jump off the bus and dismantle the gun, and is now being hailed a hero.

He's got a football scholarship to Mississippi State, and I'm hoping he has a successful career ahead of him.
