It’s funny how some people decide to use technology. I mean, even going back to the answering machine. When I was a kid and answering machines started to become popular, it was the idea of not missing a call when you weren’t at home. And quickly, people realized they could screen calls while at home, too.
The VCR came out, and you could record your favorite shows if you weren’t home. And people quickly realized, you could record shows when you were home, and watch them later, while fast-forwarding thru the commercials.
When I hear about the latest fad…Myspace, Facebook, Twitter…it just seems like more ways for women to act silly. That may sound bad to say, but I just think more women are involved in these things then men are.
I love have the dopey professional athletes have gotten involved in Twitter, and all the headaches it’s caused. One player on the New Orleans Saints was told he had to shut down his Twitter account because of things he said about the team. I’m not sure why the team couldn’t just tell him not to say anything about the Saints anymore.
The NBA took the move of actually banning players from using Twitter or other sites during games. A few players had been tweeting from the locker room at half-time. And it was only a matter of time before one of them tweeted from the bench.
Of course, the players union will probably fight this. Because, who are the big, bad billionaire owners…to want to insist that their millionaire athletes actually concentrate on the game being played.
But one last comment on technology, is how it’s helped solve crimes. Unfortunately, it can’t do anything for the amount of idiots that seem to end up on juries.
Recently, a funny case popped up in Atlanta, where the police had been doing a criminal-background check for a job application. The person was wanted, for the killing of a University of Missouri student in 1976.
The 65-year-old Johnny Wright, sure did the wrong thing. I’d think, if you committed a crime like this, you’d avoid any jobs that required background checks.
The funniest part of this is that it cost the guy $15 to have his own background check to run.
